Wedding Videographer Calabria, Italy

What a destination for a wedding! And what a couple! Have you always dreamed of getting married in Italy in a charming, atypical, and exotic place? In the land of La Dolce Vita, as a destination wedding videographer in Italy, I suggest you check out the wedding of Marie & Gio in Tropea. This beautiful couple decided to get married in Calabre, near the birthplace of Giovanni. When he took his beloved for the first time on a trip, they discovered this charming village – Tropea, still a little untouched and not very touristy. Perched on a hill, overlooking the town, was the sanctuary of Santa Maria dell’Isola. So they made a crazy decision to get married in Italy there. After a few discussions with the local priest, they realized their dream and got married in this atypical place with a breathtaking view of the city and the sea.

Marie, from France, contacted me to film her wedding in Tropea. Accustomed to destination weddings in Italy, I must admit that leaving for a few days in the Calabria region inspired me a lot! With David, the wedding photographer, we suggested that the couple enrich their stay and consequently the images we would produce with a boat trip on the coast. The couple was delighted and accepted without hesitation.

The day before, David and I spent some time taking pictures of the city early in the morning, when everyone was still asleep and when the weather was still fresh. In the afternoon, we met the ciouple in the harbour for a few hours of a boat trip. On the program, we had lifestyle sessions, swimming, and a walk on the beach. In the evening, we were able to rest and taste the delicacies of the Calabrian region.

The overwhelming heat woke us up early in the morning, and after a beach session, we met the couple at Villa Paola, Tropea. After the preparations, we took a van to the Santa Maria dell’Isola sanctuary. A religious wedding in Italy perched on top of a hill overlooking the sea; what a breathtaking view! Back at the villa Paola, and some drone images later, we had a cocktail (tasted the famous spritz, of course), then the meal. And what a feast! Consisting of a series of Italian dishes, it ended with a ball opening and a wild dance party until the early hours of the morning.

Best season for South Italy wedding

Choosing a date is one of the most important steps, particularly the season. Usually, the southern parts of Italy have mild Winters which make these lands ideal for celebrations all year round. However, the Summer periods are very hot and dry – which can be easily cured with a relaxing dip in the Meditteranean sea! Yet, I would recommend Spring and Autumn for the ultimate relaxing experience. Furthermore, during Summer, it is usually crowded especially when it comes to those popular destinations like Amalfi Coast, Apulia, and Sicily. But I am always all about finding the most secret and breathtaking locations that haven’t reached the popularity of other places and are even more awe-inspiring! This brings me to the next point:

Wedding venues in the south for an Italian destination wedding

Simply put, wherever you choose to tie the knot in this gorgeous part of the country, you won’t regret it. Whether it would be Positano or an iconic beach in Sicily, it will be memorable. However, I am all about iconic and one-of-a-kind experiences, so during my travels and videography work; I fell in love with one particular region in between called Calabria. It is nestled on the toe of the southern Italian peninsula – basically close before Sicily. Having a Calabria wedding means treating your guests to one of the most fabulous beaches, and the best part? They are less crowded than their Amalfi counterparts! Those that I highly recommend are the beaches around Tropea and Scilla. The incredibly charming villages, old towns, and rugged scenery will offer amazing backdrops for your wedding videography and enrich the guest experience! The cuisine has some unique features like foods preserved in oils which are a real treat. Paired with a fantastic Italian wine? It basically means one thing – planning a Calabria destination wedding equals living la dolce vita.

CAN I GET LEGALLY MARRIED IN ITALY EVEN THOUGH I AM NOT A RESIDENT THERE?

Simply put, yes you can! Many countries have strict terms when it comes to destination weddings, however, with so many celebrations happening there, it is possible to have both – a civil and a religious ceremony. Of course, there is the paperwork and it varies depending on where you are hailing from.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED

First, you need to see what the requirements are based on your country. Here you can check out for US and UK citizens. As to any wedding, the essentials are to prove your identity and that you are not legally bound by any other marriage.

ALTERNATIVE

Instead of handling all the paperwork, you can have a wedding planner to do it for you – which I highly recommend for a stress-free experience! Plus, they know all the tips and tricks to pull off your dream event. An alternative to getting legally married in Italy would be having a symbolic or blessing ceremony instead of the civil (which you can do in your homeland prior to this). This is not legally binding but it is beautiful, precious, and equally romantic – followed by an amazing South Italy wedding reception!

Hiring a destination videographer instead of the local ones will give an artful touch to your nuptial video as they will have original ideas and a new vision. The locals are used to seeing the same scenery while the destination professionals will bring a breath of freshness to the portrayal. For example in my case, there are also additional experiences included like boat rides with the couple, adventure sessions, spending time with the couple prior to the wedding to make sure I capture their dreams perfectly.
