Getting married at Mas de Peint in Camargue

Mas de Peint, a wedding estate in the heart of the Camargue

A 17th-century farmhouse surrounded by bulls, white horses and exceptional celebrations

At Mas de Peint Hotel – Manade Jacques Bon, Route de Salin-de-Giraud, Le Sambuc, Arles, Mas de Peint is one of those places where the Camargue is not just a backdrop: it is felt everywhere. The estate stretches across 500 hectares, surrounded by white horses, Camargue bulls, flatlands, rice fields and that clear light so typical of the Rhône delta. This elegant 17th-century house, restored by the Bon family, brings together the spirit of a traditional mas, stone façades, agricultural volumes and the quiet comfort of a 5-star hotel. On site, couples will find 8 rooms, 6 junior suites, 1 suite, gardens, an outdoor pool, a shaded terrace, Le B for more intimate moments, La Bergerie with 750 m², La Cabano dis Ego with 800 m², an arena for 800 guests and a lodge camp. As a wedding videographer at Mas de Peint, I love this venue because it can host both a refined wedding and a lively Camargue-style celebration, with drinks in the gardens, dinner in La Bergerie, brunch by the pool and a symbolic secular or civil ceremony on site.

Why a wedding at Mas de Peint works so beautifully on film

Filming a wedding at Mas de Peint means working with spaces that already tell a story. Preparations can stay relaxed in the hotel rooms, the cocktail hour naturally belongs in the gardens or on the terrace of Le B, shaded by wisteria, and the evening takes on another dimension inside La Bergerie, where the thatched roof structure brings a rare visual presence. For a wedding videographer at Mas de Peint, the real strength of the venue is the way it moves between intimacy and wide-open space: a hand held just before the ceremony, then an arrival in the vast landscapes of the manade, with horses, gardians, the arena and a very low horizon. The light in Camargue is beautiful but demanding; in summer, I prefer to avoid ceremonies too early in the afternoon, as the pale stone and dry ground can make faces look harsh. Late afternoon works better for vows, couple portraits and wide shots. The mistral can also join the day, so microphones, veils and light arches need to be secured, with a smooth plan between the outdoors, the terrace and the interior spaces.

My discreet and cinematic approach at Mas de Peint

My approach is to film without taking up too much space. At Mas de Peint, that matters, because emotions often appear in the in-between moments: a guest discovering the arena, a family crossing the gardens before the aperitif, children by the pool, a glance during the speeches, or the couple finally taking a quiet breath a few minutes after the ceremony. I work with a discreet presence, careful composition and a strong focus on sound, because vows, speeches and the gipsy or Camargue atmosphere bring so much depth to the story. For a short and elegant wedding film, I look for the strongest images, the ones that truly capture the day. For a wedding film with storytelling, I build the edit more around voices, family bonds, the rhythm of the weekend and what the couple is feeling from the inside. I love Provence for its contrasts, but Mas de Peint has something wilder: here, the image is not only beautiful, it is rooted in local culture, with its traditions, wind, light and silences.

A wedding videographer based in Provence, close to the Camargue

I am Meryll de Gordon, founder of GordonWeddingFilms, a wedding videographer specialised in storytelling since 2014. Being based in Provence is a real advantage for a wedding at Mas de Peint: I know the rhythm of the region, the changing light, the summer heat, the sometimes long drives between venues, the challenges of the wind, and this very local way of letting the day unfold without controlling it too much. Mas de Peint feels different, because it sits in a deeper, less postcard-like, more authentic part of the Camargue. As a wedding videographer in Provence, I can work with both French and international couples, in French or in English, with clear preparation before the wedding. I often film celebrations over several days: welcome dinner, ceremony, evening party, brunch, pool party or a quieter moment around the estate. This continuity changes the final film a great deal, because a wedding film becomes more personal when it tells not only the story of one day, but the whole feeling of the stay, the guests getting to know each other and the little details that might almost have been forgotten.

Tips for planning your wedding at Mas de Peint

Light, wind, spaces and the rhythm of a weekend in Camargue

To plan a wedding at Mas de Peint, I first recommend thinking of the venue as a full weekend experience, not just a reception space. The accommodation on site, the pool, gardens, restaurant, event spaces and lodge camp make it easy to imagine a gradual arrival for guests, especially for international couples. La Bergerie is ideal for dinner and dancing, as it offers protection from the wind and gives the party a strong setting; the gardens and the terrace of Le B work beautifully for a more intimate cocktail hour, as long as shade is planned in summer. For photography and video, a late afternoon ceremony remains the best option: the light is lower, faces look softer and wide shots across the manade gain more depth. Sound also needs to be anticipated: outdoors, I always double the audio sources for vows and speeches. The legal civil wedding is organised at the town hall, but a secular or symbolic ceremony on the estate can be beautiful. The venue works extremely well for elegant weddings, countryside celebrations, Camargue-inspired events and big parties that carry on late into the night.

Frequently asked questions

If I have not yet filmed on your exact date at Mas de Peint, that is not a problem at all. Quite the opposite. When I discover a venue with fresh eyes, I am often even more attentive to the details: the texture of the stone, the shade under the wisteria, the lines of La Bergerie, the movement of the horses, the light in the gardens. I always prepare the location in advance so I can film with both artistry and precision.

Spring and early autumn are often very pleasant in Camargue: the light is softer, temperatures are more comfortable and the outdoor spaces remain beautiful. Summer also works very well, especially for a long celebration, a poolside brunch or a Mediterranean atmosphere, but shade, water and a later ceremony should be planned. On film, the end of the day gives the most balanced images.

Yes, I regularly work with both French and international couples, in French as well as in English. Mas de Peint is very well suited to destination weddings because it offers a complete experience: accommodation on site, dinner, reception, brunch, Camargue activities, wide-open spaces and a real local immersion. For guests travelling from far away, the venue immediately creates the feeling of being somewhere else, without anything feeling artificial. That is very powerful to tell through images.

Yes, and it is one of the best ways to tell the story of a wedding at Mas de Peint. The estate makes it possible to imagine a welcome dinner, the wedding day, an evening party in La Bergerie, then a brunch by the pool or a more relaxed moment the next day. On film, these sequences give the story more space to breathe. We better understand the bonds between guests, the atmosphere of the venue and the energy of the whole weekend.

Yes, I travel throughout Provence, Camargue, the Alpilles, the Luberon, the French Riviera, as well as anywhere in France or abroad depending on the project. Being based in Provence helps me understand the distances, realistic timings, local light and logistics between venues. For Mas de Peint, I always anticipate travel times and scouting, so I can arrive calmly and fully prepared.

Mas de Peint is located in Le Sambuc, within the commune of Arles, in the heart of Camargue. It takes around 1 hour 20 minutes from Aix-en-Provence depending on traffic, about 1 hour from Marseille Provence Airport, and closer to 2 hours 45 minutes to 3 hours from Nice. For international guests, Marseille Airport is usually the most practical option. I always recommend planning shuttles, as the estate is intentionally remote, which is also part of its charm.

Named
"BEST INTERNATIONAL WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHER"

Being recognised among the best international wedding videographers is a huge honour, but I see it above all as a responsibility: to keep creating films that feel sincere, refined and deeply human. Every wedding reminds me why this work matters so much. Awards recognise a point of view, consistency and a way of telling stories, but the most important images will always be the ones couples want to watch again in ten, twenty or thirty years.
