Wedding videographer Villa Kérylos

Wedding videographer Villa Kérylos: filming a Greek villa by the sea
Located in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Villa Kérylos is one of those venues unlike any other on the French Riviera. Its address, Impasse Gustave Eiffel, Beaulieu-sur-Mer, places it directly on the rocky promontory of the Baie des Fourmis, facing the sea and the silhouette of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. Built between 1902 and 1908 by Emmanuel Pontremoli for Théodore Reinach, it captures the spirit of a Hellenistic home: pale façades, red shutters, a peristyle, marble columns, mosaics, frescoes, precious woods and spaces designed around light. For a wedding, the available areas remain truly distinctive: terrace, Mediterranean gardens, peristyle, gallery of antiquities, lounge, triklinos and conference room. There is no accommodation or swimming pool on site, which makes the venue better suited to an elegant, cultural, intimate or prestigious reception, with a stated capacity of around 100 guests depending on the setup. I love this blend of cicadas, olive trees, warm stone and Greek inspiration: the images immediately feel timeless.

Low-angle light, colonnades and sea-facing terraces
This venue works beautifully on film because every space creates a natural transition. We move from the gardens of Villa Kérylos, greener and more sheltered, to the colonnades of the peristyle, then to the terrace facing the sea. Late afternoon is the most interesting moment: sunset cocktails by the water, columns bathed in light and the red shadows of the pergolas offer a visual texture that feels rare. For a symbolic ceremony, couples can consider the gardens or terrace depending on the private access granted, but the plan must always be confirmed with the monument’s team, as only certain areas are accessible and preservation of the site comes first. Cocktail hour works very well outdoors, especially when the breeze stays gentle, while the peristyle becomes beautiful for a more intimate moment or a dinner entrance. A Villa Kérylos wedding videographer also has to anticipate the challenges: strong contrast between pale marble and shaded areas, acoustics that echo in the mineral rooms, limited access outside public opening hours, and possible sea wind on the terrace. With the right preparation, that is exactly what makes the film feel alive.

A discreet narrative between marble, sea and voices
At Villa Kérylos, my first instinct is to respect the rhythm of the place. I film without taking over, with a mobile camera, lenses that keep things soft, and constant attention to real sounds: footsteps, fabrics, laughter, glasses, wind, speeches. My approach is discreet, but never distant. I give a little direction when it helps, especially for couple sequences around the columns, in the garden or on the terrace, then I let everything become natural again. This villa calls for quite a precise visual approach: not moving too much in the peristyle, avoiding overly demonstrative shots, keeping the sea as a breathing space, and building an edit that makes sense. I want a wedding film to hold onto the exact feeling of a day, not just its appearance. For some couples, I can go further with a wedding film with storytelling, weaving in voices, letters, speeches or moments filmed the day before. On the French Riviera, and especially in this venue, I love when the film stays elegant without becoming cold.
Wedding videographer Villa Kérylos, rooted in the South of France
I am a wedding videographer based in the South of France, and I travel very often across the French Riviera. This is a real asset for a venue like Villa Kérylos, because it is not enough to arrive with a beautiful camera: you need to understand Mediterranean light, the journeys between Nice, Monaco and Beaulieu-sur-Mer, seasonal traffic, private hire schedules and the way local teams organize receptions in a historic monument. Since 2014, I have built GordonWeddingFilms around a narrative, sensitive and cinematic style, with real importance placed on editing, sound and the couple’s story. I have filmed more than 180 weddings for French and international couples, and my work has received several awards, notably from Inspiration Photographers, AsiaWPA and WEVA. But in such a powerful setting, I do not try to impose a heavy signature. I prefer to observe the details: a hand sliding along a red handrail, a dress moving near the olive trees, a sentence spoken during dinner, the sea behind the guests.
Timings, light and logistics for a wedding at Villa Kérylos
Organizing a reception at Villa Kérylos without losing the light
To organize a wedding at Villa Kérylos, I would suggest planning the schedule around two realities: the monument and the light. The villa is a heritage site open to the public, with visiting hours and precise private hire conditions; the day therefore needs to be built with comfortable margins, especially for setup, vendor access and guest movements. The best visual window is in the late afternoon, when the light becomes less harsh on the pale façades and the terrace takes on a softer atmosphere facing the sea. In summer, I would keep photos and couple shots for after the hottest part of the day, then plan a sunset cocktail hour if the venue timing allows it. For sound, the peristyle and the stone or marble rooms require real preparation: lavalier microphones for speeches, a test before guests enter, and discreet speaker placement to avoid too much resonance. For guests, choosing accommodation in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Nice or Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat makes the end of the evening much easier.

Frequently asked questions
Whether I have already filmed at Villa Kérylos or not, I always prepare the venue seriously: scouting, light direction, authorized areas, sound constraints and timing. And if I am discovering a venue for the first time, that can often be a strength. I arrive with fresh eyes, more attentive to the details, the angles, the textures and what makes your wedding different from any other.
Spring and early autumn are very pleasant in Beaulieu-sur-Mer: softer light, more comfortable temperatures for guests, and a Mediterranean atmosphere without the peak density of summer. In July and August, the venue remains magnificent, but the schedule needs to breathe more, key sequences should be avoided too early under harsh light, and couple moments are best kept for late afternoon.
Yes, it makes a lot of sense around Villa Kérylos. A welcome dinner in Nice, a seaside dinner in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, a brunch in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat or a boat trip can create a more complete story. These less formal moments bring spontaneous images, voices, glances and breathing space that truly enrich the final film.
The town of Beaulieu-sur-Mer is about 7 km from the centre of Nice and about 15 km from Nice Côte d’Azur Airport. By train, Beaulieu-sur-Mer station makes the area easy to reach, but for a wedding with guests, I always recommend planning shuttles or drivers, especially in high season and at the end of the evening.
Aerial images can be incredible around Villa Kérylos, as the villa sits by the sea with a very recognizable silhouette. But this type of footage always depends on permissions, airspace zones, wind, visitor numbers and the monument’s rules. I never promise drone footage without checking first; I prefer to guarantee an elegant and compliant shoot.
Private hire configurations indicate a capacity of around 100 people for certain spaces such as the gardens or the peristyle with atrium. The experience is therefore better suited to an elegant, intimate or medium-sized wedding than to a very large reception. I can work as a Villa Kérylos wedding videographer while adapting to the chosen setup: terrace, peristyle, gallery or gardens.

I am honored that my work has been recognized by several international associations and festivals dedicated to wedding films, editing and artistic direction. These awards matter, of course, but they never replace what matters most: staying close to each couple, telling their story with honesty, and creating films that keep their emotion over the years. This standard pushes me forward, helps me approach every wedding with fresh eyes, and keeps me searching for images that feel sincere, elegant and deeply human.
