Getting married at Château de Crémat

Wedding videographer Château de Crémat: a setting between vines and sea

Located in Nice, Château de Crémat sits at 442 chemin de Crémat, on the heights of the Bellet vineyards. It is a deeply Niçois venue: wine-focused, historic and spectacular, with terraces opening onto the city, the hills and the Baie des Anges. Depending on the setup, the estate can welcome up to 500 guests in the gardens, 250 in the Verrière and 160 in the Salle Antoine Mari. The spaces are varied: terraces, gardens, an indoor room, the Verrière, cellars and a preparation room, although there is no pool or accommodation on site. Built in 1906 by Antoine Mari on the family lands of Li Plana de Mari, then transformed from 1923 under the influence of Irène Bretz and the Charles Dalmas agency, the château still has its unmistakable neo-Tuscan character, with ochre façades, arches, antique stained glass, a late 19th-century-style glasshouse and furniture inspired by the Ritz spirit. For an intimate, prestigious or chic countryside wedding, the atmosphere is powerful: cicadas, olive trees, vines, lavender bouquets, golden light and local culture come together naturally.

Golden-hour light, upper terraces and sea views

What works so well on film at Château de Crémat is the way the spaces already create a natural flow. The story can begin with the preparations in the dressing room, open onto the vineyards of Bellet, move into an outdoor ceremony on a terrace or in the gardens, then continue towards the Verrière or the Salle Antoine Mari for dinner. The Terrasse Baie des Anges is one of the most interesting places for wide shots: at sunset, the light softens the façades, the arches and the guests, with the sea below and Cap d’Antibes on the horizon. For a wedding videographer Château de Crémat, the best timing is often a late-afternoon ceremony, followed by an outdoor cocktail hour, then a short couple session just before the light fades. The cocktail works best in the gardens or on the terraces, where guests can move around easily and the background stays alive. The main challenge is the contrast in high summer: at midday, the bright areas can be very strong, and the wind coming from the hills or the sea requires real attention to sound.

A discreet approach for a cinematic result

My way of filming a wedding at Château de Crémat is built first and foremost on discretion. I do not like interrupting a scene that is unfolding naturally, especially in a place where elegance comes so much from simple gestures: a glance on the terrace, a hand resting during the cocktail hour, a breath before entering the Verrière. I work with careful preparation, but with a light presence on the wedding day itself. This allows me to create a wedding film that keeps the real rhythm of the day, without making guests feel as if they are part of a staged production. I particularly love this venue because it calls for anticipation: the light changes quickly between the gardens, the stained glass of the Salle Antoine Mari and the ochre façades of the château. I use several audio sources for vows and speeches, subtle angles, sometimes a more organic texture, and an edit shaped around emotion rather than effect. When the couple wants to go further into the story, I also create a wedding film with storytelling, where voices, speeches and ambient sound bring real depth to the memory.

A local eye, often drawn to the coast

I am Meryll, videographer and editor, and I founded GordonWeddingFilms in 2014. I live in the South of France, in Provence, but I travel very often across the Côte d’Azur, especially around Nice, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Cannes and reception venues set between the sea and the hills. As a wedding videographer Château de Crémat, that is a real advantage: I know the southern light, the very fast sunsets, the heat, the sometimes narrow access roads and the rhythm of destination weddings. My work is focused on storytelling, with both French and international couples, in French as well as in English. I have filmed more than 180 weddings, often in demanding venues, alongside wedding planners and large teams. My films have been recognised by several international associations and festivals, including Inspiration Photographers, AsiaWPA and WEVA. Still, I keep a very simple approach: understanding the couple, their story and their loved ones, then filming with enough distance for the film to stay sincere. At Château de Crémat, this sensitivity matters, because the setting is already strong; the key is knowing how not to overdo it.

Tips for planning your wedding at Château de Crémat

Timing, access and spaces to plan ahead of the day

To plan a wedding at Château de Crémat, I would first suggest thinking of the day by zones. Preparations can take place in the château’s dressing room, then the ceremony on one of the sea-view terraces or in the gardens, before an outdoor cocktail hour. Keep the Verrière for dinner if you want an elegant, light-filled atmosphere, and the Salle Antoine Mari for the party, as it is designed to host both dinner and dancing until late. For video, avoid a ceremony in direct sun around 2 or 3 p.m. in summer: the light will be harsh on faces and façades. A time around 5:30 or 6:30 p.m., depending on the season, gives softer light for the vows, guests and couple shots. Access is simple by car, with more than 200 parking spaces, but guests should know that the estate is located on the heights of Nice. From the airport, allow around 17 minutes by car. As there is no accommodation or pool on site, plan hotels in Nice and return transport. For outdoor speeches, lavalier microphones are essential: the wind from the hills can quickly carry voices away.

Frequently asked questions

Whether I have already filmed at this venue or not, I always prefer to approach it with fresh eyes. A place like Château de Crémat deserves attention, not routine. When a videographer truly discovers a space, they pay closer attention to details, lines, light, transitions and the less obvious corners. That curiosity often creates a film that feels more alive and more artistic.

May, June, September and October are often the most comfortable months for enjoying the terraces and gardens of Château de Crémat. In high summer, the light can be very strong on the façades and the heat rises quickly on the heights of Nice. For video, I especially love the end of the day, when the light becomes softer over the Verrière, the vines and the sea.

Yes, and this kind of format is especially interesting for a more narrative film. A welcome dinner, a tasting in the cellars, a moment with loved ones the day before or a brunch the next day all add emotional material to the story. At Château de Crémat, the vineyards, terraces and indoor spaces make it possible to vary the atmosphere without ever leaving the world of the estate.

For a beautiful film, I would choose a ceremony on a terrace or in the gardens, ideally in the late afternoon. The cocktail hour works very well outdoors, as guests move naturally with views over Nice and the hills. For dinner, the Verrière brings an elegant and structured atmosphere. The Salle Antoine Mari is better suited to the evening party, with its stained glass and adjoining terrace.

Château de Crémat is around 17 minutes by car from Nice airport, or about 11.4 km according to the route indicated by the estate. From the Promenade des Anglais, allow around 16 minutes. By public transport, it is also possible to take tram line 3 to Saint-Isidore, then bus 52 to the château stop.

Yes, I travel very often across the Côte d’Azur, from Nice to Monaco, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Cannes, Antibes and the hilltop villages of the hinterland. Being based in the South of France helps me better anticipate distances, light, access and local constraints. For weddings at Château de Crémat, that proximity is a real comfort during the preparation process.

Named
"BEST INTERNATIONAL WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHER"

Being recognised among international wedding videographers is a true honour, but I see it above all as a responsibility. Every award I receive reminds me why I do this work: to tell stories with care, stay close to the couples and keep searching for an image that feels more honest, more sensitive and more personal. My work has been recognised by several wedding film associations and communities, including WEVA, Inspiration Photographers and AsiaWPA. These awards matter, of course, but they never replace what matters most: creating a film that will remain alive for you, your family and the people who shared that day with you.
