A Wedding in the Alpilles: Light, Villages and Provençal Landscapes
Alpilles Wedding Videographer: A Setting of Olive Trees and White Stone
The Alpilles are located in the north of the Bouches-du-Rhône, between Arles, Avignon, Salon-de-Provence and the Camargue, with Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, Les Baux-de-Provence, Maussane, Eygalières and Fontvieille as natural landmarks. Here, the scenery is never flat: white limestone rock, pine trees bent by the mistral, olive groves, vineyards, cypress trees, lavender fields around the estates, and that golden light that arrives so quickly at the end of the day. The Alpilles Regional Natural Park protects this land shaped by vines, olive trees, stone and old villages. Its history is tied to farmland, mills and bastides, but also to a real local desire to preserve the landscape, driven by the surrounding villages since the late 1980s. For a wedding, the Alpilles are just as suited to intimate celebrations in a mas as they are to prestigious receptions in a château or relaxed countryside weekends around a pool and a shaded courtyard. I love filming this side of Provence: the cicadas, the paths lined with rosemary, the warm façades at sunset, outdoor dinners, and guests who linger a little longer because the place makes them feel at ease.

The Best Wedding Venues in the Alpilles
In the Alpilles, every estate tells a different story of Provence. Le Château des Alpilles, in Saint-Rémy, keeps the discreet elegance of a private manor house hidden behind an avenue of plane trees. Domaine de Manville, in Les Baux-de-Provence, offers a five-star atmosphere that feels intimate and full of light, perfect for a refined private celebration. Le Hameau des Baux feels like a small Provençal village set among olive trees, almond trees and terraces. Domaine de Lamanon stands out for its 15th-century mas, its plane trees and its lavender-lined driveway. Château d’Estoublon embodies a prestigious wedding setting between vineyards, olive oils and a grand château. Mas de la Rose brings a chic countryside spirit at the foot of the mountain range. Château de Vergières blends a courtyard, a renovated barn and generous outdoor spaces. Domaine du Petit Roulet breathes authentic Provence. Mas d’Arvieux is ideal for warm, joyful celebrations under the plane trees. Le Mas de Chabran combines gardens, a pool, old stone and beautifully considered comfort.

A Discreet Approach to Wedding Films in the Alpilles
In the Alpilles, I film with a discreet presence, because the venues already have such a powerful visual identity and a wedding should never feel like a staged production. I prefer to observe and anticipate, place myself in the right spot and let gestures unfold naturally: a hand holding a bouquet a little tighter, a father watching his daughter before the ceremony, guests walking through the golden dust of a driveway, the last rays of light on the stones of Manville or Estoublon. My approach is cinematic, but never heavy-handed. I use existing light whenever possible, gentle movements, clean sound for vows and speeches, and an edit that keeps the true rhythm of your day. This is what makes it possible to create an elegant, vivid and sensitive wedding film, far from overly visible effects. In a region with so much texture, it matters to choose an Alpilles wedding videographer who understands mistral light, shadows beneath the plane trees and the atmosphere of long evenings outdoors. My aim is simple: to tell your story beautifully, without ever taking attention away from what you are living.
A Local Videographer to Film Your Wedding in the Alpilles
I’m Meryll, founder of Gordon Wedding Films, and I live in Provence. As a wedding videographer based in Provence near Aix-en-Provence, I travel very regularly to Saint-Rémy, Les Baux-de-Provence, Maussane, Fontvieille, Lamanon and Saint-Martin-de-Crau. This proximity truly changes the way I work: I know the travel times, the light that drops quickly behind the mountain range, the sometimes narrow access roads, the importance of shuttles for guests and the way a wedding day unfolds here, often outdoors and across several different spaces. Since 2014, I have filmed French and international couples, in both French and English, with a strong focus on storytelling. A storytelling wedding film is not just about beautiful images; it should preserve the voices, the setting, the silences and the details that may have felt small in the moment. Being based in Provence, to me, also means staying simple, human and available, while understanding what couples come here to find: a Provence that feels real, elegant, warm and sometimes a little wild.
Tips for Planning a Wedding in the Alpilles
Timings, Mistral and Traffic Around Saint-Rémy and Les Baux
For a wedding in the Alpilles, I recommend building the schedule around the light and your guests’ comfort. In the height of summer, avoid ceremonies that take place too early: the white rock, mineral courtyards and terraces can be extremely bright in the middle of the afternoon. A ceremony around 5:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. often gives a softer image, especially at Château des Alpilles, Mas de la Rose or Domaine de Lamanon, where the trees create beautiful shaded areas. At Domaine de Manville and Château d’Estoublon, allow enough time for moving between spaces: the properties are large, and each setting deserves a few minutes to breathe. The mistral can look beautiful on film, but it calls for protected microphones, secure hairstyles, weighted table plans and a sheltered option for the cocktail. In Les Baux-de-Provence, access and parking may require shuttles, especially during high season. For evenings in courtyards, barns or vaulted rooms, such as at Château de Vergières or Mas de Chabran, check the acoustics with the DJ: a good sound balance helps preserve the emotion of the speeches.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, I regularly film weddings in Provence and in the areas close to the Alpilles. I know the atmosphere of Saint-Rémy, Les Baux-de-Provence, Maussane, Fontvieille and Provençal estates very well. Even though every wedding is different, this knowledge of the region helps me anticipate the light, travel times, the mistral, outdoor spaces and the moments when the setting becomes truly cinematic.
The most pleasant months are often May, June, September and early October. The light is beautiful, temperatures are more comfortable and evenings remain mild. July and August offer a very Provençal atmosphere, but it is important to plan shade, water, fans, a later schedule and a backup plan in case of mistral. Autumn is stunning in estates with vineyards, olive trees and warm stone.
The price mainly depends on the length of coverage, the number of days, the films delivered, audio options, possible travel and the complexity of the wedding. A wedding in the Alpilles can sometimes take place over two or three days, with a welcome dinner, ceremony, brunch and relaxed moments around the estate. The easiest way is to share the venue, date and planned schedule with me so I can prepare a tailored proposal.
Yes, I work in both French and English with couples from France, Europe, the United States, the United Kingdom and Asia. The Alpilles attract many destination weddings because the region combines lifestyle, gastronomy, landscapes and high-end reception venues. I can communicate with your wedding planners, photographers and families in English to make both the preparation and the wedding day smoother.
Yes, and it makes a lot of sense in the Alpilles. Many couples privatise an estate to create a full experience: welcome dinner, wedding day, poolside brunch, a walk through the villages or a more intimate moment with close family and friends. Filming over several days allows me to tell more than a single day: the arrival of the guests, reunions, accents, laughter, details of the venue and the atmosphere of the whole weekend.
Yes, I travel throughout Provence, the French Riviera, the Luberon, around Aix-en-Provence, Marseille, Avignon, Saint-Tropez and elsewhere in France or internationally. The Alpilles are an area I can easily reach from my base in Provence. This proximity is useful for communication, location scouting when needed and realistic schedule management on the wedding day.
From Aix-en-Provence, it often takes around one hour to one hour and fifteen minutes, depending on the village and traffic. Marseille Provence Airport is generally the most convenient option for international guests getting married around Saint-Rémy, Maussane or Les Baux. Nice is further away, around two and a half to three hours by road. For a summer wedding, I always recommend allowing extra time, especially on Fridays and Saturdays.
Quite the opposite: when I have never filmed at a specific venue before, I arrive with fresh eyes. I am often even more attentive to details, lines, shadows, reflections and the little corners you might stop noticing when you always film in the same place. My experience filming weddings in Provence gives me the right instincts, but discovery keeps a real artistic freshness.
Drone filming always depends on the venue, weather, local regulations and possible authorisations. The Alpilles include protected natural areas, sensitive zones, frequent wind and sometimes restrictions linked to villages or private properties. I always check feasibility before promising aerial footage. When a drone is not possible, the region already offers plenty of visual depth from the ground.
It all depends on the style you are looking for. Domaine de Lamanon works beautifully for a green and intimate ceremony, Estoublon for a prestigious atmosphere between vineyards and château, Manville for a very elegant reception in Les Baux, Mas de la Rose for a chic countryside spirit, and Le Hameau des Baux for the feeling of a Provençal village. The key is to choose the right timing according to shade, wind and light.

Being recognised among international wedding videographers is a true honour, but above all I see it as a responsibility: to keep creating films that feel sincere, elegant and deeply human. These awards celebrate years of work, encounters, travel, long nights of editing and stories entrusted to me by incredible couples. I bring the same level of care to every wedding, whether it takes place in a grand château in the Alpilles or in a more intimate mas. You can also follow me on WEVSY and INSPIRATION PHOTOGRAPHERS.
